Some Information About Hormones That Cause Hair Loss

Hair loss is something that is suffered by both men and women. Hormones causing hair loss can also be present in men and women suffering from hair loss. Of course there are some differences in the hormones for the different genders and the way they come about.

Hormones are in fact the thing that will most commonly affect the growth and loss of hair. Without them our hair will not grow in the first place. There is a certain hormone present in everyone called Dihydrotestosterone or DHT that is responsible for hair loss. Even though everyone has this hormone in them only some people will suffer from hair loss and this is due to genetics.

Hair loss in men is more common than in women. Adrogens, testosterone and the hormone DHT will all play a part in what is called male pattern baldness. When the adrogens and testosterone combine with DHT it can cause a thinning of the hair. Additionally the hair follicles will shrink and they will become so small that it is impossible for new hair to grow.

Hair loss in women can be caused by a number of things. Child birth can cause loss of hair in women. The hormonal changes that the woman's body goes through while it is recovering from childbirth will cause many hairs to go into their resting period. The hairs will fall out after a while and this condition can remain for 1 to 6 months. After this time the body adjusts and returns to the way it was before childbirth occurred.

Androgenic Alopecia is something that many women may get later on in life. Of course the use of birth control pills and the changes in hormones created by them can cause this to happen much earlier. In most cases after the pills have been stopped the hair should stop falling out and grow back.

There are some ways that the hair loss caused by these hormones can be treated. After childbirth waiting a few months will sort the problem out as the hormones in the body will return to normal. Birth control pills should be stopped and the hair will grow back in most cases. Unfortunately there is no real way to stop male pattern baldness from happening.

Hormones that cause hair loss include DHT and testosterone. While many people will suffer from hair loss at some point there are things that cause it to happen sooner.
